چکیده

Figure 1. A. Axial brain computed tomography (CT)angiography showing a giant left (Lt) distal internal carotid artery (ICA) aneurysm. B. Axial transcranial sonogram (mesencephalic level): Butterfly-shaped midbrain was encircled for better visualization (solid lines). Arrows indicate the coiled distal ICA aneurysm. He was monitored via daily transcranial sonography (TCS) for the potential development of vasospasm. In TCS, the coiled distal ICA aneurysm was visualized as a round hyperechoic mass anterior to the midbrain. There was no aneurysm refilling on consequent evaluations. Unenhanced TCS is proposed as a screening tool for coiled aneurysm refilling.1

Transcranial color-coded duplex sonography for detection of distal internal carotid artery stenosis.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Gradation of high-grade intracranial internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis poses a challenge to noninvasive neurovascular imaging, which seems critical for angioplasty in the ICA segments C1 and C5. We investigated cutoff values of intracranial ICA stenosis for transcranial color-coded sonography (TCCS) and compared this method with the "gold standard," digital subtracti...

Usefulness of transcranial color-coded sonography in the diagnosis of cerebral vasospasm.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The noninvasive diagnosis of cerebral vasospasm with the use of conventional transcranial Doppler ultrasonography (TCD) is based on a velocity study of the middle cerebral artery (MCA). The authors report a prospective comparative study between transcranial color-coded sonography (TCCS), conventional transcranial Doppler (TCD), and angiography in the diagnosis of cerebral...

Paraclival or Cavernous Internal Carotid Artery: One Segment but Two Names.

BACKGROUND The anatomy of the carotid artery has traditionally been understood into segments that correspond to the surrounding relevant anatomy. Transcranial surgery favors the seven segments classification initially posited by our group in 1996. With the advent of endoscopic approaches a new term has been added to the carotid anatomy lexicon "the paraclival internal carotid artery (ICA)." Thi...

A novel approach using Neuron 6F guiding catheter for the embolization of intracranial aneurysm with coiling of the parent internal carotid artery.

To describe our initial experience and early outcomes with distal placement of the Neuron 6F guiding catheter through coiled ICA for aneurysmal EVT. We examined the utility of the Neuronf 70 6F guiding catheter for the embolization procedure in such cases, fourteen cases of aneurysm with coiling of the parent ICA are presented via traditional guiding catheters. With the support of 8F ENVOY guid...

Complete neck clipping of internal carotid-posterior communicating artery aneurysms using bayonet-shaped aneurysm clips: technical note.

Neck clipping for internal carotid-posterior communicating artery (IC-PC) aneurysms using standard straight, angled, or curved clip may result in remnant aneurysm neck. We describe complete neck clipping of IC-PC aneurysms using a bayonet-shaped clip. The bayonet-shaped clip is applied perpendicular to the long axis of the internal carotid artery (ICA), and the blades of the clip are inserted b...
